For the past nine years, I have been actively involved in Islamic Relief; from fundraising to hosting events to taking part in projects around the world. As much as I enjoy what I do, my role is not possible without the help of Islamic Relief volunteers. With so many places to visit and people to meet, it is only with the support of the dedicated volunteers that I am able to be so involved with projects abroad.
Yesterday I came back to Scotland after visiting Pakistan for the last 3 weeks. During this visit I met Sindh flood victims but will write about my eye witness account later. Right now I would like to express my feelings about Charity week team- a team which I find very dedicated, focused and keen to make a real difference in the lives of millions needy around the world through Islamic Relief.
Charity Week – One Week. One Cause. All the Difference. The one week in the year in which Muslim Student Associations and university societies all over Britain get together to make a difference to the lives of orphans and children suffering around the world. A week in which as much is done to raise as much money as possible. Collecting money in the streets, sponsored events and campaigning in partnership with Islamic Relief are just a few of the ways charity week raises money. It is a week of fun for everyone involved. This event helps to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for Islamic Relief. Last year during charity week I took part in Students fundraising Dundee and Edinburgh dinners, thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere at the venues, and was very inspired to see how a small number of students manage to mobilise other students and community at large. During my visit to Pakistan in Oct 2010 witnessed Islamic Relief using charity week funds to train mothers of orphans in Hygiene and health workshops.

Although volunteering is a service offered willingly and free of charge, it requires a commitment and heart-felt desire to help those in need and that’s what every member of charity week offers and does. They take action; plan events, obtain permissions from councils for street collections, book venues, print marketing and publicity material, produce merchandise,  shake buckets you name/think it they do it!
There are so many students that want to do good and want to make a real difference in the community. Some just don’t know where to start. Well a campaign like charity week offers that golden opportunity and allows a platform for making friends and at the same time have fun, raise funds and save lives. This opportunity is perfect for anyone wanting to make a difference in the world. At the end of the day, what you do is about saving lives. Thanks to all the students involved this year as well and best of luck during charity week. I am sure you will raise more funds this year than previous years.

But something you do, or choose not to do, will change the course of their life.’
